This is tailored from person to person, but as a general rule payment for hypnotherapy sessions is due at the time of booking. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged for the session. Refunds are not provided for missed sessions or cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance.

Professions Code 2908

• Exemptions: Hypnotherapists are exempt from the psychology licensing act if they use hypnotic techniques for vocational or avocational self-improvement, as long as they do not treat emotional or mental disorders¹.
• Referrals: Hypnotherapists can work under the referral of licensed professionals such as psychologists, dentists, or medical doctors¹.

Senate Bill 577 (SB 577)

• Disclosure Requirements: Hypnotherapists who are not licensed in the healing arts must have new clients read and sign a disclosure form. This form must state that the hypnotherapist is not a licensed physician, that the session is complementary to licensed healing arts services, and that the hypnotherapist’s services are not licensed by the state².
• Advertising: Non-licensed hypnotherapists must disclose in their advertising that they are not licensed by the state as healing arts practitioners².

• Permitted Activities: Hypnotherapists can provide services for self-improvement and as complementary treatment to licensed healing arts services³.
• Prohibited Activities: They cannot claim to treat or diagnose medical, dental, or mental health conditions unless they have the appropriate licensure³.
